The Story of Anthenaeum
You’ve heard the stories, right? Your parents told them to you as children. The stories of the dead rising up from their graves to haunt the night and prey on those who wander to far. Or the stories of the guardians who watched over us with the power of a beautiful stone. Those were stories told during the day. Happy stories to keep the children’s spirits up when things looked dark. To give us hope that there was someone out there watching out for us. Of course, the adults knew these were just stories. There was no way some magical group of creatures was protecting some stone, or that the dead could ever rise up. They were dead, right? These were just stories passed down to keep little ones close and happy.
Or so it was thought by those who roamed the lands of Anthenaeum. Though hidden deep on the island of Vinales within a beautiful temple made of glimmering crystal and marble. Within this temple and its surrounding island lived a race of beings known as the Fae. These creatures were guardians of a magical stone that protected the lands of Anthenaeum. For centuries peace reigned within this group as they guarded the stone protecting its secrets and keeping it from the world. Though many year ago, a dispute broke out among the Fae, two sides formed within the dispute. On one side there were those who believed the stone should continue to be kept the way it was, hidden and protected from the world. Then there was the other side, those who believed it would be best to bring the stone into the world. To use its powers and the lands as gods among the people.
It didn’t take long for this dispute to turn into an all-out war. As the war waged it went unnoticed that the stone was beginning to change. That with the more blood that was shed among the Fae, so many lives were lost that Fae soon became a near extinct race. With all of the lives that were lost and the more blood that was shed, the darker stones glow became, until one day its light became that of an unbelievable darkness that seemed to draw in the very light around it. One day it would seem the stone could no longer absorb anymore darkness from around it and the stone shattered into six pieces. When the stone split a massive surge of wild magic was released from the stone. As the light from the explosion faded it was found that only one small fist sized piece of the stone remained within the temple. This piece seeming to glow with a deep unforgiving darkness. The other five pieces of the stone had been scattered across the lands of Anthenaeum.
Though the final stone that lay within the temple was claimed by a dark witch whom now bares control of this dark piece of the stone. With this stone the witch placed a curse upon the land bringing back the dead. Not just those with bodies. She brought back spirits to roam the land. Both of these creatures under her control.
When the explosion of magic happened from the stone a portal opened bringing with it strange creatures whom held within them all that was good in the world. Protectors and guardians, some called them angels. With these angels came their polar opposite. Creatures that were dark and evil, creatures called demons. Those who reveled in the pain of others and would gladly lead you down a path to your own damnation. With this wave of wild magic blanketing the lands the angels and demons chose their sides within the Empires that ruled the lands of Anthenaeum. The angels choosing to take their place among the kind and just Empire of Delcentie, while the demons chose to claim what loyalty they had to the darker more malicious empire of Trenzalor. Soon with the influence of the angels and demons within the empires, a war broke out that now wages tirelessly between the two empires.
With the stone now scattered, war waging between the two empires, and creatures of legend roaming the lands who knows what could happen. Will the stone be brought back into one piece and bring peace to the lands, or will the stone take on a new role among the creatures on Anthenaeum?
